PHARMACEUTICAL PROPERTIES
Doxycycline, the active ingredient of ATLADOX-P, is a second-generation tetracycline antibiotic. It has bacteriostatic effects on several Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria such as Bordetella, Campylobacter, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, Salmonella staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. It is also active against Chlamydia, Mycoplasma and Rickettsia spp. Its action results in the inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis.
The absorption of doxycycline is fast and complete when administered via oral route, which confers a maximum bioavailability. Thanks to its strong liposolubility, it has a great power of penetration and action inside the bacteria in the respiratory and digestive tracts. The slow elimination of doxycycline confers it a prolonged action. Thanks to its perfect solubility, its strong stability in drinking water and its great affinity for the lungs, doxycycline remains the antibacterial agent of choice in the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases in poultry.
